: Does anyone know of a pice of equipment that you hook up to an acoustic bass somehow, there's a cord on the 'piece of equipment' that you plug into an amplifier like you would to a normal electrical instrument? In this band I'm in, people have said that they can barely hear me on the acoustic bass. So I asked my director what I should do. He then told me of that 'pice of equipment'. So I'm like it if anyone knows of that pice of equipment and how much it costs? yeah David~
There are hundreds of piezo pickups for bass. If you want to start cheap with a decent tone, I would recommend the K & K Bass Max, which fits in the wing of your bridge. It is under $100, and they range all the way up to the Schertler Dyn-B which is an electrodynamic mic for $500. Piezos can be harsh sounding, so use of a preamp helps some of them, although the Bass Max does fine without one. The Fishman is also popular in the $100 range, but I wouldn't recommend it without a preamp. You can follow the link to see the Bass Max. Bob will answer any questions you have about it.
