: I have a German made Framus double bass that says it is a copy of an Antonious Stradiuaris Cremonensis Faciebat Anno 1721. Can anyone tell me anything about this paticular bass or about Framus who made it? I would greatly appreciate someones expertise. Ryan

Framus has been around for a long time, especially evident in the US about 30 yrs ago with electric instruments as well as laminated basses. You'll find a couple sites at and

You will find "Antonious Stradiuaris Cremonensis Faciebat Anno 1721" on the inside label of thousands upon thousands of instruments. To everyone's knowledge, no basses were ever made by the master, so it's a bit ridiculous, but helps to sell instruments, as well as make everybody who finds an old violin in their grandparents' attic think they have a multi-million dollar Strad.

I thought I had some details on the Framus basses but can't seem to put my fingers on it; wasn't anything extensive, and sorry, I don't know of any on-line resources.
