: I was wondering how well an adjustable bridge works, and whether it effects the sound of the bass?
Those I have used and installed have worked very well; some require that the strings be loosened slightly to more easily adjust the height.
You will find a link to a scientific study on different types of adjusters, and no adjusters, on my Double Bass Links Page - http://www.bobthebassguy.com/basslink.html
A primary use for an adjustable bridge is to compensate for seasonal and travel changes, typically for carved basses. Another may be for a player with a single instrument that plays different styles, necessitating varying string heights.
