: Anyone know anything about Meisel basses? They are made in China which scares me a bait, but the one I saw (3/4 size) looked and sounded good. It will be a traveling basss in a bluegrass/country/folk band. It wasn't too expensive either,
: (which also scares me).

I haven't played one, but I do deal with Meisel for other items and am aware of their origin. Meisel is a music wholesaler that has been in business for a long time, since I was a kid (and that's a long time ). In speaking with the Prez of Meisel, the people responsible for the basses were in Korea for many years but moved their facilities to China - he has a lot of confidence in their quality and has had good experiences with them over the years.

But I can't tell you of their quality (or lack of) by personal experience, only references. A lot of them are sold to schools through local music stores who deal with Meisel, as I do. Their wholesale pricing isn't much different from the US-made Engelhardts, whose quality I have personally experienced, so I haven't had the urge to sell Meisels.
