: Hi everybody,
: I want to buy a set of new strings for my hungarian upright, either D'Addario Helicore or Pirastro Jazzer. Can anybody give me some advice? Should I go for the light or medium set? Helicore Pizz. or Hybrid? I mainly play jazz, but I'm an electric bass player and new to the upright. Thanks Tim

If you are new to the instrument a lighter set may be easier on your hands, though a properly set up instrument may help even more. Personally, I'm not a fan of either Helicore set you mention, too metallic for my tastes; their Orchestra string is actually more versatile and warmer IMHO, and has sufficient sustain for jazz.

I've not played the Jazzers, and am a fan of Corelli 370 strings; while my original bass was double bass, I also play electric and like the sound and feel of the Corellis. I have hand problems and so prefer the lighter touch requirements of the Corellis as well as their "edge" and definition.
