: I am looking to purchase a bass pickup and I would like to know which one is the better pickup between, Realist, Underwood, Fishman BP100, and Schertler.

They all have their own strengths and weaknesses. I've owned or used at one time all of them, and here are my impressions:

Realist: Very natural sounding, have heard it is prone to breakage. Also can be detrimental in a big room, it doesn't seem to have enough mids and highs to cut through the mix.

Underwood: Decent sound, often imitated. I like the K & K BassMax based on this design. More wooden sounding then most bridge pickups with less string noise.

Fishman: The Volvo of the pickup world. It works decently, won't feedback, sound is fair but much better with a preamp.

Schertler: Assuming that you are talking about the Stat-B, this is the most natural sounding bride pick-up. It isn't as microphone-like as the Dyn-B, but for playing through a bass amp, it is nice. I have the Dyn-B but after hearing Richard Davis with a Stat-B a few weeks ago, I considered getting one for higher volume gigs. For now, I'll stick with the BassMax.

It all depends on what sound you are looking for, how loud you need to be, where you are playing, what kind of bass you have (some pickups sound better on carved basses and some sound better on plywood, esp. the Realist).

Hope this helps. YMMV
