: Spiros' for a brighter modern sound, long sustain, growly low E but twangy G; the Weichs are better for bowing and I grew to prefer them for pizz too; McBride used to use them.
: But now I use Pirastro Obligatos for a more traditional (closer to gut) sound. They still have a big sound, less tension, easier to bow, and the price is right. They just came out and are already very popular.
: I just hope they last as long as the Spiros between re-stringing. Any feedback on that point?

Jim, I switched from my beloved Spiros to Obligatos. I love them ! I do find that their life span is only about 6 months, this will probably vary depending on the amount of playing that you do. Other Obligato players I have talked to have found the same to be true. I hope this helps.

Dave
