: How does one install and set a soundpost? Are there bass repair books that I can buy, and if so, where? Thanks.

The post is usually installed using one of a few different tools available that have been designed for the job. Probably the most common is a long s-shaped slim piece of metal with a point on one end, which is stuck into the wood of the soundpost and then inserted - the other end may have a shape conducive to pushing and pulling the post into place. Generally speaking, the post is generally placed in line with the bridge foot, and may be best directly under but more often is better up to a couple inches down towards the tailpiece, but remaining in line with the bridge foot.
