Sometimes unbelieveable that even famous bassists doesn't insure our precious ladies. One real story from here in Belgium. The famous Paul Dubois has a 20k$ Darch 5-string bass, had a car accident, bass was seriously damaged (about 7k$ repair costs) and his lady wasn't even insured!! (Paul Dubois has an about 50 years carreer, played with the greatests) For years now I have an insurance on my 7k$ 180 years old French Bass, and I'm paying about 100$ a year. Once I had a trouble while playing in an Open Air Jazzfestival in France (Haute Savoie): I got a crack in the bass, possible caused by the dry air in the mountains.
I reported this to my insurance company (Commercial Union) and they paid the repair (about 500$) without any problems or questions . A certificate of the luthier was enough for them. The only thing they don't pay is theft when you leave your bass alone, e.g. in your car , but who leaves his baby alone in this cruel world??
