: hello all,

: I was wondering if you had any ideas of exercise one can do to work on the sound produced on doublebass ? I'm thinking of exercise which might help one make more aware of the sound produced, and ways of working on it, both pizz and arco.
: So far apart from playing repeated notes very slowly with different attacks and vibrato I'm out of ideas.
: Yet sound is the first thing one hears...
: Do you think it's just an "always be aware of what you're doing and with time + practice things will improve" kind of thing ?

: cheers

Practice, practice, practice. One thing, though. With each new exercise, you're focusing on making the notes. Take some time every day to play some stuff you've totally mastered, so you don't have to think about the notes. This will free you to concentrate on how you sound.
