: The steel strap wire that holds tailpiece on my upright has slipped to one side. The point where the steel wire makes a right angle and goes up to the tailpiece is displaced to the left about 20 mm. I am going to loosen the strings and reposition the strap.
: I have no idea how this could have happened since the instrument has not been dropped or otherwise abused. It would appear it would take a tremendous amount of energy to move the strap.
: Anybody seen this happen?
When you do this, lay your bass on its back on a table, and lay a weight on the top in the sound post area, to prevent it from falling over when you remove tension. The saddle usually has a groove in it for the tailpiece wire to lay.
