I bought the Realist and the Contra at about the same time, and fought with the EXTREMELY dark sound for a few days. I ended up putting the Underwood I had replaced back on, put them thru a Y cord, and then the Contra sounded great; that's what I use now. I'm with Monte on getting the most sound out of the bass (acoustically) as is possible. I listen to recordings of myself in the old days, using fingertips and low action, and I feel ill....
