: I have been following the hype about the ACoustic Image Contra and I am sure like a lot of you after the holy grail of URB sounds you are intrigued. I presently use a GK mb150 which is a great little amp but loud venues still cause problems with feedback and integrity of sound. How much, if at all, is the Acoustic image contra better than the GK.
: Also I use my GK for electric gigs (pit work and the occassional small gig.)
: Is the sound of the Contra more powerful than that of the GK when using electic bass?
I have heard (but not tried) the G.K and thought it sounded too "electric" sounding for my taste - but this could've been down to the players equipment and EQ settings. I , myself , use a modified Contra rig with the difference being that the extension speaker now has a power amp in it as well - the signal is taken from the main amps pre-amp section.
With this set up I get a sound that can only be described as huge ! An advantage of this is that , as I have twice the wattage available to me , I don't have to drive the amp hard to get the required volume . My local amp tech did all the require mod's for me with A.I's
blessing - I understand that this may be available as an option from them in the near future . In the meantime if you want to know any more just e-mail me .
