Having been a Tea chest bass player for the last 25 years I have dabbled with many different pickup combinations to 'capture' the woodiness of the acoustic sound and amplify this without any tonal distortion or metormophisis in the transfer from instrument to mixer. I favour the use of the Hana Barberra bridge come pickup as this directly translates the natural sound in its intended form to my Contra-d1ct amp set up which incidently is a valve jobby. This amplifier is equipped with 5 positronic Mazda 253 valves which pass through the onboard equilization system to produce the classic 'Skiffle' sound which is so hard to amplify usually. I hope this is of use!!!
