: Currently, I play a cheap but good sounding plywood bass. Has a fairly
: big sound, tone etc... I need to put a new fingerboard on it (ebony of course)
: My question is... Since the fingerboard is off anyway, would graphite improve
: the sustain on my bass? Does anybody have experience with this? I have heard
: of the same thing on EUBs. thanks.

My luthier routinely installs a graphite bar on new necks, and also as an option when replacing a fingerboard. He does it for strength, and has never mentioned sustain. In a week, I'll have my bass back and we'll see.
