: A professional who plays electric bass guitar told me his strings go dead after 30 hours playing time.
: Have any of you calculated how many hours upright bass strings can be played before the tone is shot?

: I guess it might matter what brand is used so let's say how many hours are Spirocores good for.

IMHO you never want to put a stop watch on the amount of time you hve a set of strings on your bass ! The best indicator of whether or not they need changing is your ear - if they sound "dead" and you don't like he sound change 'em , however if your happy with your sound leave 'em on ! This system has worked for me for over 20 years but saying that I feel sure this will spark up an arguement from "certain quarters"
( "francis x" will know who I mean ) so watch this space !
Hope this has been of some help,
