: I am interested in the Velvet line of strings. Has anyone had any experience with the "Garbo" gut strings? I have just purchased a new double bass...Berlin made c.1840's. It has a strong low end, and the E speaks very well but I would like a warmer sound on the G. I have had the sound post adjusted. Any recommendations?

I have a set of Garbos that I bought a month or so ago. I am really into them. The G String is a bit hard to bow. They are really loud and sound great. The Piz sound is so amazing, they feel really spongy and I have raised my action quite a bit. The bass I have has great low end and the G string of a weich set sounds pretty good I just really like the sound of Velvets. I have also tried the Compas 360 which sounded great. I used them for 6 months and they started to die out. I boiled them and got a couple more months out of them with a great sound and no visible damage to the string. Peace
