: I have a set of Garbos that I bought a month or so ago. I am really into them. The G String is a bit hard to bow. They are really loud and sound great. The Piz sound is so amazing, they feel really spongy and I have raised my action quite a bit. The bass I have has great low end and the G string of a weich set sounds pretty good I just really like the sound of Velvets. I have also tried the Compas 360 which sounded great. I used them for 6 months and they started to die out. I boiled them and got a couple more months out of them with a great sound and no visible damage to the string. Peace

is boiling strings (in water, i assume) a common and effective procedure for extending their life?
