: I just bought a backup/beater bass, plywood with gut striings. I've never owned guts before, so I want to keep these on the bass and experiment and then see if I want to perform with gut. The E & A are wrapped, but the D & G are pure gut. They have become very frayed and hairy. What do you do to deal with that?

: Thanks!

I don't know if it will "bring them back" if they are very dried out, but walnut oil is suggested for keeping gut strings healthy. You should use a sharp implement to nip off the hairs, perhaps a high quality nail clipper would be a good choice.
