: : Anyone have comments on the barcus berry bass pickup? It seems interesting. I have tried quite a few p-ups and still am working it out- I have tried the KK stuff and I like it. Is the BB preamp necessary-or could I use another one?

: : thanks!

: Ya. I cant stand it. It was really uneven. The E was 5 times louder than the G and it had a Fishman on a bad day tone (even with the cracker jack preamp). I would not recommend it. You might try the Realist or a mic or both or well you know the story. Good luck, Michael

: PS The preamp is mandatory due to the plugin jack on the pickup being not 1/4 inch or anything I have ever seen (kinda RCA like) which was yet another thing I didn't like about it. Boo.

Try a system which has E.Q. on each string. The "Berry" doesn't have any real form of E.Q.,

something you'll need with an upright bass. For many years, however,

pickups like the Barcus-Berry were all that were available. Now we have

better stuff.

much better stuff.
