: Hello all,

: I was wondering if anyone might help me determine the age of my Kay. It's a four-string Concert Model, with an ebony fingerboard.

: The serial number is a bit tricky. It looks to be 2095. But there's also what might be a "54" or "S4" written on the same line on the label, a little bit before that; it's definitely not part of the same number string.

: Complicating things still further is the possibility that a few more characters might be under the grunge on the label--it's really hard to tell, but if you squint in a certain way it looks like there might be a "16" at the very beginning.

: Therefore, the serial number is either:

: 2095

: 54 2095

: S4 2095

: 1654 2095

Is there a number written in red crayon on the wood as well?? 2095 makes it a 1939 model. You may want to get in touch with Roger Stowers at www.kaybass.com with your information; he is the guy who compiled the database from info from buyers. He put a lot of work into it and is also working on producing data for all models. Let him know about your bass for a more precise ID.
