: can anyone recomend a good preamp to use with the realist?

: a.

The Realist folks indicate that a preamp is unnecessary with their pickup. I've sold a few K&K Dual Channel preamps to Realist owners who wanted to mix in another pickup, like a K&K Bass Max or Double Big Twin for more clarity, especially at high volumes.

I would suggest that your choice should be made on the basis of your goals -- if all you want to do is have a volume control at hand, a K&K Power Pack or any of a dozen Fishman, LR Baggs, etc. preamps can do the job. If you are plugging into an amp under your own control, most have more EQ flexibility than the average small preamp, and that's where you probably want to shape your sound.

If you need more EQ at the preamp for changes in the character of your sound on the fly, then I'd choose the K&K Pure Preamp (especially since I sell them) or any of the more expensive preamps from the above mentioned mfrs. for their additional shaping capabilities. The stuff from Raven Labs is also very nice, high quality, and definitely worth a look; I expect to add their preamps and other cool boxes to what I sell very shortly.

But I guess a description of your requirements would help in crafting an answer to your query.
