: Playing Arco while standing with the upper bouts (the sides) leaning against the abdomen creates less tension in the right shoulder. True or False?

less tension than what (other mechanism for playing)?

it seems to me that the lower and freer one can let one's right arm hang while bowing, the less tension one will experience in the shoulder (the muscles will be more relaxed). on the other hand, this still may not be the optimal mechanic for your bowing since it may create tension in other parts of the body, especially over time. i have been interested in sitting on a stool while playing (i have always stood as you describe), but all my experiences with it include extending my arm much more horizontally, which requires a new kind of strength for me. i wonder if it would help relieve some of the back soreness i get after playing for a couple of hours, though.
