mmmm, tape, glue, johnson&johnson...you loose the "feel" with the string, it makes the string dirty and sticky after a while. Some old bass players (Pavageau, Foster, ) used tape but I think honestly they did that for their sound : it makes your sound a bit darker with taped fingers.
However it took me about 2 years to get blister free fingers, I can now play for hours and hours without any trouble, you have to get through this bleedy tunnel...and go for the real thing.
Maybe one hint : never wash your right hand at least 1 hours before playing a gig and don't wash your right hand during a break.
