: : : Has anyone tried these out ? Are they really worth $400 ? How about the Damian D gut strings? I am setting up a bass for strictly slap style and am open to any ideas regarding strings.Thanx, Bob

: : You can get less expensive gut strings, like LaBellas, Goetz and Pirastros.
: : Check Lemur Music (www.lemur-music), Quinn Violins (www.quinnviolins), Uprightbass.com for prices. (between $200 and $275 approx.)

: : I use the Compass 180 for orchestral and jazz. They have a synthetic core and resemble an older sound for jazz, as opposed to growl of Spirocores. They bow really well and have much less tension so you can set the strings higher.

i got a set of velvet 'garbo' strings and was not impressed. i went right back to the thomastik spricore solo set that i'd been using before. the garbo strings didn't sound any better and didn't respond as well to the bow.
