I think you would be pretty unsatisfied from what i've heard of most of these low end chinese basses (i think DeVilli is pretty much the same as palantino, cremona, etc, somebody correct me if I'm wrong)

From most accounts they tend to spontainiously self destruct, the necks are huge, and they are just generally badly made. Most ANYTHING in double bass land under $1000 is likely to be crap (and a 'quality' instrument is likely to run 2-3 times that and up -- entry level is generally considered 1-2000 range), although you can get some of the lower engelhardt stuff for around there or a bit lower, check www.urbbob.com with Bob Gollihur.
