Has anyone heard of a Gretch Upright Bass? I reciently purchased a very old plywood bass with a tag inside that says "Genuine Gretch" And a 4 digit serial number. The Tag is handwritten. It may have had the neck replaced, but it does have the wooden tuning pegs protruding from the headstock. The repair shop I bought it from said they believe it is from around the 1910's, but they can't be sure.

I've looked on the internet for them, but I only find gretch making banjo's, tamborines and mandolines and the like, up untill the 1920's or so.

Is it perhaps related to the Guitar maker Gretch, or it may be a different family name or a county or city name?

Either way it sounds great, but needs alot of work in the refinishing department.

Any info is apprecitated.
