Well justin, I always say, there is no better teacher than the blues themselves. SO, get youself some Stevie Ray Vaughan, Johnny Winter,(both by the way which Tommy Shannon played with)B.B. king, Robert Johnson, Muddy Waters, Howlin Wolf, Robin Trower, John Lee Hooker, hell, even The Allman Bros. and Led Zeppelin albums and start playing. Tune your bass to standard E and you will find you are pretty dang close to being in tune with any of these songs. Then, start thinking about some crummy time in your life and play. dont even worry about getting all the notes right.....the blues is a feeling, its a space in time. its out there...always...all you gotta do is connect and you shall be free........ that and you can also go to and order the November 1997 issue called "Play the Blues"-15 must know blues lines. It is a whole issue dedicated to the blues. it'll cost 10$ but is WELL worth it. Good luck.......john
