If the bass is set up the right way, not only does it not make it more difficult,
but some things become easier. The beautiful about a 5 string is the fingering
possibilities that the extra string allows. You don't have to shift back towards
the nut to hit notes between A and E. It's also easier to control the E stopping
it at the fifth fret of the B string as opposed to playing it open. There's a lot
of things that, in my opinion, the 5th string facilitates. Being able to play down
to B is just an added bonus. Shop around till you find a bass that's set-up the
right way and that you find comfortable.
