Ditto to what Carol said about the wood not needing to be heavy. When you
talk about vintage Fender sound, we should all remember that the majority
of Fenders(basses and guitars)were made from alder, poplar or other "light"
woods. It wasn't till later that ash and other heavier woods started to come
into use, and, lo and behold that's when people started to say that their
sound changed.Different electronics and CBS acquiring the Company didn't
help either. It's good to see that Fender, and other manufacturers finally
realized that a heavy bass with a ton of sustain isn't everyone's dream of
baritone sound.Look at(or better yet listen to)The Jack Casady Signature
bass and all the acoustic/electric basses that are out now.I'm dying to
check out one of those Renaissance basses with the piezo pickups.Honey,
lock up my credit cards.
Jazz it up,Mickster
