I would like to add a comment if i may. I agree that many people are jumping the bandwagon and trying to learn to play 'bongo bass' and it has been played out in the past so much that now it is no longer hip. I have taught myself to play the bass and have learned to play both slap style and the 2-finger style. Now i am teaching myself to play jazz, yet i still incorporate the slap style here and there... My point is, the reason you learn to play music is to play music, not to be hip, not to follow the fashion or fad. As a musician, i see it as being necessary to learn to play as many styles, learn as many techniques, and learn to mix and match as much as possible to keep the music fresh and innovative. Don't ditch something just because it ain't hip no more! My main love is still and always will be the guitar, and i will still learn to play blues, jazz, funk, rock, classical, flamenco, whatever, whether it be hip or not. My love is music...

the elusive sasshiro strikes again...
