Hey all. My name is Ben, and I am an electric guitarist. However, I recently accepted a role in one of my friend's band as the bassist. For years I have toyed with the idea of taking up the bass, but now it seems like I really have to. I am pretty good at coming up with intresting bass lines and unconventional sounds with the bass, but I usually only use a pick (I suck with my fingers unless I try to play it like I would finger pick a guitar which actually works somewhat) as it allows me to translate my guitar skill to the bass. How would using a felt pick w/ steel strings, or a normal pick w/ tape strings do to give my picked lines a more organic, rounder, and less clicky sound? Also, I am very intrested at learning how to do funky slapping stuff (not looking to become stu hamm, just to be able to do basic, cool sounding, percussive slap stuff for the more heavy and percussive parts of the band's music). Can anyone give me some pointers on slapping? Are there any products that can help? I'm not intrested in taking lessons for the bass, as I can barely afford to take guitar lessons (which I probably don't really even need) at this rate. Thanks in advance!
