Keep your tuning normal -> B E A D G
You'll soon learn to see the chords your guitarist plays and as you have a five string you'll get to that low D anyway.
Of course you could try a high five string set with a drop D tuning that is D A D G C. If you do this remember to change your strings to lighter, a six string set leaving out the thickest string. This is good if you do a lot of soloing.
