: what has happened is that i've left the strings off for too long, and i just now bought some new ones, and when i re-strung the string, it was WAY too close to the fret board, so what i've been told has happened is my neck bent out of shape from the less of stress and pressure the strings provided. i was wondering if anyone here knew if that was correct? and if so, will it be fixed if i just re-string all of the strings and let it sit for a few days? because i really don't have the money to take my bass in and have them do whatever it takes to repair it.
I would try re-stringing the thing to higher than normal tuning, maybe a step up or so. Then see if the truss rod requires adjustment. You may need to find out from the manufacturer of your bass where its supposed to be set initially. If you have no experience with neck adj. save up and take it to a qualified techie, as you can really destroy your bass by doing this wrong. It probably can be "fixed" with just a quick adjustment, not any type of costly repair. Good Luck -B
