: : I would like to learn slap bass. I've been playing for a year now. I've had to teach myself. I just need some help with the theory/method of slap bass. Also whats Tic Tac bass?

: Slap bass is very percusive. Begin by practicing open quarter notes on the E,A D,and G stings. Followed by muted or "ghost" quarter notes on the E,A,D,and G. When I play, I always use the ball of my thumb and slap the string near the 22nd or 23rd fret. One key the to remember is to incorporate muting the strings with your slapping hand into your daily practice. Remember to start slow. Go out and buy a metronome and set it at 60-80 beats per minute. ALWAYS REMEMBER.....PRACTICE(and theory)MAKES PERFECT!!!!!

Just remember Pat that if you take this road you will end up in the same place as 99.9% of all players. Sounding just like everybody else with no distinctive tone, style, or originality. You'll be melodicaly and harmonicaly limited for life. But on the upside, you'll be able to switch to bongos down the road with no problem Find your own. Steve
