: There are a lot of good books out there on the subject, but my personal leanings are to Tony Oppenheim's Slap It!, and Mel Bay's "Slappin'" by Marc Ensign. BIT's Alexis Sklarevski has created one of the best videos on the subject. You also can't beat picking up the "Best of Sly and the Family Stone" and a few Marcus Miller albums and start learning by ear. Playing with the recordings- even if you only get part of it right at first- I think is the most fun way to learn. It wouldn't hurt to grab all of the stuff if you can, though.

Have you checked out PRIMUS? Also, Stuart Hamm, Michael Manring, Victor Wooten, or Flea. Those are the people that I learned from. Good Luck!!!
