: Hi. I'm looking to find out where I can get full size double bass, most likely used. Please reply with any ideas.

Mary, what part of the country are you in? A good place to start would be making inquiry with the bassists who play with whatever symphony or opera company does performances in yer area. The market for double basses is primarily secondary (ie used) because most people are looking for basses with a certain quality of sound, and not many of those are new. But don't be put off from buying a new bass, you may be ale to get a better new instrument, depending on the amount you want to invest. Also, be a little careful when you say "full size". That means a 4/4 size instrument, which can be a bear unless you are tallish or have a long reach. If you look at the poll at stringbass.com, a majority of players play a 3/4 size bass. Play a bunch of'em and see what is most comfortable for you. There is a nice article written by one of Glen Moore's students in a back issue of DOUBLE BASSIST about shopping for a bass that you might want to check out. Good Luck!
