: Standard tuning is fine with a drop D. Just make sure you always "tune up" meaning that you always tune from just flat up to correct pitch. This is to help prevent string slippage and to insure proper tension. If your drop D is not at correct pitch after this tuning then you need to adjust your intonation slightly to correct this problem. Hope that helps and good luck.
