My two year old daughter already shows a desire to get her mits on the old man's Fender Jazz. It sits on its stand and she'll put one hand on the fingerboard, hit the strings over the pickups and says "bass" over and over. Got the basic idea, right? Yeah baby, you're going to be just fine. Seriously though, Vantage made this half-scale mini-bass a few years ago. Those Danelectro Longhorns that have recently been reissued would be a good starter for a child. They have a much shorter scale and are a really good blast for the buck.
