: I own an Ibanez SR505 w/active electronics. I am looking for a nice light, bright strings. Any suggestion. Presently have heavy gauge strings and they suck.No brightness at all. I have GHS Bass Boomers (med/light) on my Fender Jazz. Nice and bright. Would that also be a good choice for my Ibanez?

Dave: I'm in the midst of testing some Peavey strings for my 5-string and must admit that I'm not only impressed by the tone and feel of them (much like the GHS Boomers to me), I'm just as impressed by the fact that they are only 18-19 bucks a set. I've just purchased another set of them, as a matter of fact. On the pack, it says "Balanced 5-String STEEL" (Stainless) and the gauges are .045, .065, .080, .105, and .126. Nice, beefy tone; but of course (as you know), technique and the equipment also have alot to do with tone, too. Try them out, if you like the Boomers. Does anyone else out there use the Peavey strings and if so, what do you guys/gals think about them?
