: Karel, look for an older teacher, even if it's an upright teacher who is into chordal progressions....they'll have the right arpeggios exercises that will help you in that direction and interpreting chord charts and soloing, and if not, then go with a piano teacher who is also heavy into jazz, good luck. ....000

Wow... a PIANO teacher??? Now, THAT's a GREAT idea! I've already approached the one "celebrated" upright player here and he told me there was "nothing he could teach me". It's kind of pissing me off because I've heard this again and again from other working bassists down here, but the fact is I feel I can learn something from MOST working bassists, regardless of my talent level and I'm willing to pay for that added insight/knowledge they may be able to divulge.

Too many musicians out there seem to think they MUST take a lesson DIRECTLY from Carol Kaye, James Jamerson, Paul McCartney, WIll Lee, etc. etc., to learn anything, whereas, I have learned that putting my ego aside pays off. Yeah, I give lessons, too and NOOOOO I do NOT encourage students to learn the "modes" (BTW).... oops... ranting again... I'm sorry about that.

Anyway, please know that I consider it an honor that you are taking to time to personally respond to my statements/questions. I truly hope that ALL others in this forum realize what a valuable asset is at their fingertips to be able to post a question and have yourself, Bunny Brunell, Adam Nitti, etc., reply to that question. If you guys and gals don't know who these people are, I HIGHLY suggest you do some research. By FAR, this web site/msg. board is the most valuable resource on the 'net! 'Nuff said... again Carol, I thank you and you'll be seeing my check and order form in the next few days -
