Don, my man... get ahold of yourself first, THEN get ahold of (and play along with) some old Motown stuff, some Stray Cats stuff, or an old Beatles tape and try to figure out the basslines as close to "note-for-note" as you can. It's pretty easy to figure out the notes all those guys are playing, but try copping the grooves, too. Learning some new styles will open doors every time.

Last, but not least; realize that the better you get, the more you'll realize you have to learn before you'll feel comfortable with dubbing yourself a "master" of the instrument. I hear bassists sometimes that at first, make me want to toss my axe into the dumpster, then reason wins out over my naturally competitive nature and I just realize it's time for me to learn something radically different and outside of my comfort zone.

Hang in and I'll try and catch up with you again in the next few days at your usual "hangout" (IRC / DalNET's #bassics, where Don's an OP by the way). Remember Don: you da MAN!
