Ok, I need to vent to someone, sorry, but I need to. Played with lots of other musicians and bands in the past, mostly in areas where either jazz, blues, or originals were called for, so I never got into the cover band thing (to me, playing cover tunes is just an exercise or practice), I have good technical ability, a good ear, and a good understanding of theory, but now I find myself in delaware (classic rock hell), and I go to audition after audition, only to be looked at as if I am on drugs when I tell them I don't know (or know very little), zeppelin, pink floyd, chili peppers, etc....obviously, i dont get a call back...or I start a cool riff of my own used in songs and bands past, people tell me it sounds great and want to know what song it is and who does it, than quickly lose interest when told it is an original...

has anyone experienced this 'lack of creativity'? It seems I am running into alot of people who can play other peoples stuff, but not their own...someone give me some advice before i throw my '72 jazz out the window...
