you make some very valid points; stuff that I actually knew, but in my attempt to make myself sound as though I knew what I was talking about I neglected to mention. By the way, ain't nothing wrong with a good music appreciation class! If you want to teach it, I promise I won't cut any classes.

I'd like to say to listen to all the instruments, especially stuff in latin bands, gleaning from them their rythmic ideas, and their movement within the song. When I began playing I developed the tendency to listen to the lead guitar player and trying to play that stuff. I'd steal from him and try to get a groove going from what I heard. Actually it sounds kinda corny when you're playing the same stuff together, but I've learned to try and apply that to other songs. I might have to change something to make it "fit" though.
