Another solution (if you're like me) would be to check the problem out yourself instead of a shop. The obvious first step would be to check out your bridge. Look at the groove where the string sits. It should be a fairly smooth surface with a nice roll off. If your bridge is like a fender, with round pieces that the grooves are ground into, roll off shouldn't be a problem. Look for any sharp edges, spikes, or inconsistencies that would wear the string while playing. If you find any of these, use a file or emery paper to remove them (warning: chrome bridges are brass once the chrome has been sanded off). Or, get back to me here or E-mail. If the string seems to be breaking at the point just in front of the ball end, or elsewhere, get back to me.
