: I am just beginning to play bass and i find it very confusing on how and where to properly place your fingers. If any one can recommend a website with diagrams or pictures that would help me alot
Hey Aaron,
Hmmm, I can't really think of any websites that have pics of where to put your hands, sorry. You may want to get a few "beginning bass technique" books, maybe even from your local library. They'll have pictures, for sure.
In the mean time, I have a little trick for you that I stumbled upon when I was beginning to teach myself to play. Imagine that you're holding a soda can over the fretboard. Curve your fingers around the can and keep each finger on a specific fret, next to the one before. Move your entire hand as little as possible when first starting out. Instead, keep your hand in position, and just move your fingers in their rows of frets, side to side on the different strings. Ex: Keep your index on the 3rd fret E, A, D, or G, Middle finger on 4th fret E, A, D, or G, Ring finger on 5th fret E, A, D, or G, and pinky on 6th fret E, A, D, or G. Just keep screwing around with moving your fingers on their assigned frets on the different strings. This should give you a bit of guidance. And remember the "soda can" form. Hope I helped a bit.
