: Hey everyone, I've decided to make a summer project out of playing a bass guitar. The main time I would be playing it would be in my church's band. I am really good at the piano, and thanks to my teacher I know a TON of theory. I think I could learn really fast, because I've messed with acoustic guitars a little. Does anybody have any suggestions for somebody who plays the piano and is trying to learn bass?

Hi Andy,
The best suggestion I could give to you, being a self-taught bassist myself, is just to practice a lot and experiment with different sounds. It's great that you know theory, b/c everything you already know can be applied to bass. If you want to learn different techniques on how to do cool stuff like slapping, popping, etc, there are a lot of good sites on the internet. Check out the Bass Tab Archive... this has lessons in technique, tabs for different songs, and a whole bunch of other useful information. If you have any specific questions, feel free to email me!! I'm no expert, but I can find answers for you. In the meantime, good luck and enjoy the bass!!!
:) St'acey
