I suggest a 'Jaydee Supernatural' bass, which you've probably never heard of,as there handbuilt in birmingham, england. They have a massive electronics selection, and sound as if they were made for slapping. Mark King of Level 42 used one for many years, which is where he got his distinct percussive sound. They always sound as if they've got new strings on! John Diggins makes them to your EXACT specifications, or an 'off the shelf' model. He ships abroad I know, and he can be contacted at:

john@jaydeeguitars.fsnet.co.uk

He may be a bit slow in replying because he's currently moving premises, but for LOADS of info and pictures. search at yahoo clubs for:

Jaydeebassessupernaturally

Typically they have 3 band eq and are distinctive of the alembic though at a cheaper price. You can get a mint second hand Jaydee with case for around 500. You will not be dissapointed - I own one and I'm not.

Good luck friend

Efe
