Try some lubrication under the string at the bridge and nut slots. The string must be able to move at these points. You can try powder graphite, but one of the better solutions is to use GraphitAll!™ lubricant, (made by famous guitar tech Rene Martinez) which will be available to the general public by late summer. If not lubricated, the string forms a weak point or stress point and sometimes breaks from wear.
