: : I would like to know whether stainless or nickel stirngs have a brighter sound and which ones last longer.
: : thanks
: Hey Arnoldo...Stainless strings have both a brighter sound and a longer
: life. Stainless steel is less prone to corrosion which causes the sound
: to deteriorate. Stainless strings do have their drawbacks however..
: They will eat your frets quicker, they're harder on your fingers,
: cause more string noise and overtones, and they do cost slightly
: more than nickel plated strings. Personally I only play stainless
: roundwound strings; they give me the sound I prefer..My favorite
: strings on the planet are the D'Addario Prisms. I made the switch
: after playing 25 years on Rotosounds. The Prisms are the best
: bass strings on the market, IMHO. BTW, It took almost 20 years
: of playing Rotosounds before I needed my first re-fret...So it
: does take a while for roundwounds to eat your frets down to the nub..
: Your results and mileage may vary, however...
: Good Luck
: Cheers,

Thanks for the info Pat. I had previously used dŽaddario XL as I couldnŽt
find prisms in my town although I had considered prisms. Now I will leave XL
for my fretless and get some Prisms.
